Map information - Our Region

The „Norte Chico“, a region full of contrasts at the Pacific toward La Serena, has plenty of nature extremes and beauty. During one day you can experience the blue Pacific, the Sierra with cactus as tall as humans, lakes, wild valleys, national parks, crystal-clear rivers, remote green valleys and the Andes. But take your time, because not only the clear skies at night with thousands of stars and the 310 days of sun a year invite you to stay, also the romantic variety fascinates all visitors. This map will show you a few tips. From Santiago - only 5 hours by car or 55 minutes by plane - you can get to La Serena very fast and easy. This old colonial city offers interesting museums, churches, nice cafés and restaurants. Outside the city you can find even better romantic coastlines for a swim, with more silence and nice beaches. South of La Serena there is the national park Frey Jorge, an oasis at the ocean with good hiking trails. East of La Serena there is the valley of Pisco de Elqui. The grapes for the schnaps called Pisco are grown and produced here. The valley has many tourist facilities. North of La Serena there is an island called Isla de Damas (not shown on the map). This island is a nature reserve and accommodates penguins, seals, birds and dolphins. South-east of La Serena is the old town of Ovalle. Unique with its archeological museum close to the big market hall. From there you can reach the valley of Río Hurtado, a green and still very original valley. You can do nice hiking trails in the park San Pedro de Pichasca. From Pichasca it is only a small trip to the Hacienda. Here a few travel ideas, already done by a lot of our guests, in order to create an adventurous vacation for you. Getting there by rental car, bus or by plane. Route A by rental car Santiago – Ovalle (5 hours by car). Overnight in Ovalle. Many small hotels are available. In the morning visit of the museum and the vegetable market, called feria. In the afternoon drive to the park San Pedro de Pichasca (from Ovalle 1 hour by car), time for a 2 hour hike. Petrified forests and a cave can be seen there. After that it will take you only 45 minutes to get to our Hacienda Route B by bus Santiago – Ovalle (6 hours), buses leave every hour from Santiago. Take a seat at the window on the left in order to have a nice view over the Pacific. You can either stay one night in Ovalle or we pick you up directly at the bus station. If you prefer to stay overnight in Ovalle you could visit the museum and the vegetable market during the next day. In the afternoon there are two scheduled buses daily to the valley of Río Hurtado that pass the Hacienda. (For detailed schedules go to “tavel infos”). Please let us know beforehand if you like to have dinner and/or accommodation at our Hacienda. Route C by plane All our guests are picked up at the airport in La Serena, no matter what time they arrive. Our transfer route goes through the wilderness and the Andes to the Hacienda. Within 2 hours you can experience wild nature before you are with us. A few additional tips: From the Hacienda – no matter if you come by car or not ( we can drive you there in any case) – you can reach Vicuna. This small colonial city has a wonderful ambience and it is worth visiting the observatory Mamalluca – after all we have the clearest sky in the world at night! After your stay at the Hacienda it is also worth visiting the Isla de Damas to observe seals, penguins and dolphins. By car or with our vehicles it is a 4 ½ hour drive. You could leave us around midday, stay there overnight and go on a 4 hour trip by boat to the islands the next day – a wonderful experience. Not far from the Hacienda, only about 5 km, starts an old street leading through the Andes. It is a good gravel road, a 4x4 is not necessary. You can get there with your own car or with us in our Terrano Pickup 4x4, we organise a tour to the “roof of the mountains” for you. And if you like some more adventure and have an own or rental car available: You can drive to Argentina from the Hacienda via Vicuna. There is a wonderful gravel road (4x4 not necessary) passing by blue, green, red and yellow mountains at an altitude of 4.800 metres. After that the road leads downhill to Argentina. From there you could drive further down to Mendoza. A beautiful roundtrip! If you do not have a rental car available, don´t worry, we take you up to 4.800 metres, and if you like, even to Argentina!
