GETTING THERE

The "Hacienda Los Andes“ is nicely located on the attractive route between the capital city Santiago and San Pedro de Atacama, the tourist highlight in the north of Chile.

There are two reference cities to come to the Hacienda: first, La Serena, a seaside resort with a colonial style old town situated on the Panamerican Highway (Ruta 5) and second, Ovalle, a typical little farmer town in the foothills.

From either place you can reach the Hacienda very easily by bus, rental car or with our private transfer service.
Roads are mostly paved and very easy to drive also with a small car, no need for AWD.

The Hacienda lies in the middle of interesting tourist points, like Pisco Elqui, Vicuña, the Pichasca archeological site and Isla de Damas, a natural reserve on the pacific coast. Further information of this you can find

JOURNEY BY (RENTAL) CAR

There are two routes that can be taken to the Hacienda by car. The roads to the Hacienda are in good condition, no need for a cross-country vehicle.

Motorists should note that fuel is only available in Vicuña and Ovalle, but not in the Rio Hurtado valley

  • Vicuña - Hurtado - Vado Morrillos

If you are coming from Santiago you drive on the Panamerican Highway (Ruta 5) to La Serena. Vicuña can be reached from La Serena, by following the Elqui valley directions. The turnoff to Hurtado is marked on the bypass of Vicuña (do not drive into town). A beautiful scenery welcomes you along this winding, unpaved road and it will take over an hour to drive these 48 kilomeers from Vicuña to the Hacienda. Even if you have to drive carefully, it’s not a problem to come along with a small car. In Hurtado, turn right and after another five kilometers down the valley the Hacienda is clearly marked on the left hand side in Vado Morrillos.

  • Ovalle - Samo Alto - Vado Morrillos

Leave the Panamericana and drive into the town Ovalle. In Ovalle follow directions to La Serena. Leave Ovalle behind and after about three kilometres, take the bifurcation labeled "Samo Alto"/"Hurtado". The road leads through the Rio Hurtado valley. It will take about 90 minutes to get to the Hacienda in Vado Morrillos, which is five kilometres behind the locality Serón. The winding road is mostly paved and in very good condition. Only the last 15 kilometers are good gravel road.

  • To/from Argentina

An extremely beautiful and breathtaking route at heights of up to 4500m leads from Vicuña to Argentina. Depending on snow conditions, the pass is open between November and April. It will take six hours to drive from Vicuña to San Juan. If you want to pass the border with a hired car, you must first get a notary permit from the car rental service. Also fill-up the gas tank in time, as there are just a few service stations!

PRIVATE TRANSFER

Our transfer service from La Serena, Ovalle or Vicuña starts at an arranged meeting place such as a hotel or the airport La Serena:
