OUR HORSES
Our eight horses are descendants of the Chilean Criollos. They are calm and sweet-natured. Growing up in rocky and difficult areas has made them sure-footed and reliable animals. Those characteristics make them ideal horses for tourists. They are easy to ride and even a skilled rider will enjoy riding them.
Our horses are specifically trained for tourist purposes. We use neither suprs nor whips. We use the same paths as the men called Huasos in Chile and Gauchos in Argentina. That's how our horses gain strength and endurance.
We find the right horse for every customer. Our herd ranges from calm, easy-going horses for beginners, to the bit more lively ones for experienced riders.
Our horses
Sigi is our biggest one. He's appreciated by everyone for his coolness and his surefootedness. Many guests have made their first experience on his broad back. Even though he's already more than 20 years old, he still carries our guests safely through the Rio Hurtado valley.
Ranchero is our horse of choice for children. He never loses his cool, no matter what. Being close to 25 years of age makes him the longest empliyee on Hacienda Los Andes. He's dear to everybody.
Chacarero is our most astute horse. He likes to play games every now and then. Especially when he thinks he can avoid having to work. Still, he's very reliable with guests, even though he sometimes tries to persuade them to go into jog trot.
Hechicero is Chacareros best friend. Other than his friend, he is very calm and has no shenanigans in mind. He tends to be a bit lazy and trots at the end of the group. As atrained rodeo-horse, there's also a different side to him. All he needs is a wake-up call and he carries you safely through the valley.
Our Coral is still young and needs to learn what it means to accompany tourists on tours and bring them home safely. However, skilled riders can have a lot of fun whith them.
Picaflor is a former race horse. His slender build leaves no doubt, that there was a time, when he sped across race tracks as fast as lightning. Nowadays he enjoys the smooth riedes with tourists, as well as the company of other horses. His reliability and his blue eyes make him very popular with the riders.
Merengue is our import from the Pipi Langstrumpf movie and joined our herd this summer. The joung and sprightly Merengue brings with his only fife years some fresh air in the group. Still he has to get accustomed to the horse riding tours with the guests. But he seems to learn very fast and it won't last a long time until he accompanies our guests safely through the valley.
Pirula is our mule. With her short legs she bravely carries our luggage on multiple-days tours, hurrying after our horses. Also she is very pleasant and safe to ride.
